Hill Set for Carrera Cup Asia Invasion

Cameron Hill will compete against some of the best overseas Porsche drivers when he participates in the Carrera Cup Australia vs Asia event, held as part of this weekend’s fifth round of the Carrera Cup at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The format sees the Australian and Asian Carrera Cup drivers competing separately in the weekend’s first two races, before going head-to-head in a special rivalry race on Saturday evening.

Hill said the race meeting presents an exciting novelty event, and an opportunity to see how the Australian drivers stack up against some of the most talented Porsche racers from overseas.

“Racing against the Aussie Carrera Cup drivers has been enough of a challenge for me this year, but the best drivers from Asia will take the competition to a whole new level,” Hill said.

“One of the things I’m most looking forward to is racing at night; I’ve done plenty of laps around Sydney Motorsport Park, but never raced there in the dark. I think it will be spectacular for both drivers and spectators.”

While the first half of Hill’s rookie season in Carrera Cup has had its setbacks, the 21-year-old says his recent qualifying speed combined with a productive test day provides hope for a strong result this weekend.

“In Darwin, we qualified fourth, which shows our one-lap speed is starting to come together,” Hill said.

“We participated in the official Carrera Cup test at SMP last week, and we concentrated on longer runs and consistency over a race distance.

“It’s good to be racing at a venue where we have experience with the car, and don’t have to learn the track; in saying that, everyone else has tested there as well so I don’t necessarily think it will be an advantage.

“But I’m looking forward to throwing on some fresh tyres this weekend and seeing how our outright pace stacks up as well.”

Unlike the usual three or four-day events, this weekend’s Carrera Cup round will be held over just two days, as part of the Red Rooster Sydney SuperNight 300.
