Moveitnet/C-Tech Laser/Local Roadways/Bryant & Bryant Mercedes-AMG GT3 driver Tony Bates is all set for Round 3 of the Australian GT Championship at Perth’s Barbagallo Raceway this weekend.
It will be Bates’ first visit to the Perth circuit since the Carrera Cup round in 2012, but he’s looking forward to returning to the venue.
“I enjoyed racing at Barbagallo in Carrera Cup, so I’m looking forward to my second visit to the venue,” Bates said.
“One of the main characteristics of the track is that it has a very abrasive surface, so tyre management will be critical this weekend.”
The GT Championship returns to a longer-distance format for this round – there will be a pair of one-hour races with compulsory pit stops in each.
“This weekend’s format will suit the solo drivers better, so I’m hoping for a competitive performance,” Bates said.
“Once again, there are some very well-credentialed drivers in the category so it will be exciting to measure myself against them.”
Practice and the first qualifying session will be held today followed by Qualifying 2 and Race 1 on Saturday, and Race 2 on Sunday; all sessions will be shown live on FOX Sports 506.
