Sparesbox Racing Toyota 86 pilots David Bailey and Matt Thewlis have enjoyed a consistent opening day of practice for the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, finishing the day seventh in Class D.
Both drivers shared the car in each session with Thewlis completing the bulk of this morning’s opening session.
“We had a small issue with a fuse in the first practice session which cost us some track time, but fortunately we were able to resolve it quickly,” Thewlis said.
“The first session was about getting comfortable in the car, I pushed a bit harder in the second session and was able to improve my lap times by a couple of seconds.”
Bailey also improved his times between sessions, despite some oil on the track in the second session.
“I only did about three laps in the first session because I wanted to make sure Matt was comfortable in the car, and in the second session I was conservative because the track was slippery with a bit of oil and I didn’t want to risk damage.
“So far, it’s all going according to plan, the car is solid and reliable – bring on qualifying tomorrow!”
Bailey and Thewlis will have a final practice session at 7:40 tomorrow morning, with qualifying scheduled to commence at 12:50.
