FullGas Racing drivers Dimitri Agathos and Lachlan Gibbons will start their second Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour from 32nd on the grid after suffering overheating problems in qualifying today.
Agathos and Gibbons battled with rising engine temperatures in the Nova Employment/Castrol/Whiteline/All Drive Subaroo/Hog’s Breath Café North Parramatta & Castle Hill Subaru WRX STI during practice yesterday and appeared to have resolved the issues in this morning’s practice sessions, but the gremlins returned in this afternoon’s qualifying.
“The temperatures were through the roof, which was causing us to lose a lot of horsepower,” Agathos said.
“We were as quick as everyone else across the top of the Mountain, but the lack of straight-line performance really affected our lap times,” Gibbons added.
The FullGas Racing outfit is working hard overnight to resolve the problem, with an ambient temperature of 30 degrees expected again for tomorrow.
“It’s a long race and anything can happen, but it’s obviously important for us to maintain the engine temperature in the correct range in the interests of both horsepower and reliability,” Agathos concluded.
The Bathurst 6 Hour starts at 11:30 tomorrow morning and will be shown live on Fox Sports 505.
