FullGas Racing Satisfied With Solid 6HR Finish

FullGas Racing drivers Dimitri Agathos and Lachlan Gibbons are satisfied with a solid 15th-place finish in the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour today.

Starting 27th on the grid in the Nova Employment/Castrol/Whiteline/Hog’s Breath Café North Parramatta & Castle Hill Subaru WRX, Agathos completed a trouble-free opening stint before handing over to Gibbons, who continued the team’s steady progress.

Agathos resumed the race inside the top 20 before handing over to Gibbons for the run home.

“Being our first race with this car, the objective was to finish without any problems and we achieved that today,” Agathos said.

“There were lots of Safety Cars, which in some respects was a good thing for us as it kept us in touch with the leaders, but it also meant there was always plenty of competition around us.

“Overall, our strategy worked well today – we probably made our first pit stop a lap early, which put us a lap down, but everything else went according to plan.

“The thing I’m happiest about is our improvements – our times came down all weekend as we got used to the car and the track.”

After a tough weekend in Formula Ford at Wakefield Park a fortnight ago, Gibbons was relieved to encounter a race meeting without issues.

“It was a fun weekend, I love this track,” Gibbons said.

“We circulated, stayed out of trouble and made sure we didn’t get caught up in other people’s accidents.

“There was a lot of attrition today, and we made the most of the opportunities that came our way.

“The WRX is down on straight-line speed compared to a lot of other cars but we were very quick across the top of the mountain, which is encouraging for the next round of the Australian Production Car Series at Winton – I think it will suit the car a lot better.”

Round 2 of the Australian Production Car Series will be held at Winton on 9-11 June.
