GWR Australia Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge drivers Cameron Crick and Rob Woods are looking forward to carrying their recent strong form into Round 3 of the series at Phillip Island this weekend.
Crick is riding a wave of confidence after a couple of fine performances in his last two race meetings. In the previous Porsche GT3 Cup round at Sydney Motorsport Park, he qualified inside the top three and narrowly missed out on an overall podium, while a week later at Winton, he claimed pole position and the overall victory in Round 3 of the SuperUtes.
“It’s been a really good month for me, and I can’t wait to head to Phillip Island,” Crick said.
“After the damage we sustained in the first GT3 Cup round at Symmons Plains, it was terrific to bounce back so strongly at SMP, where we had the speed to run with the lead pack.
“While the SuperUtes is obviously separate to my GWR deal, it was still very satisfying to jump into a completely different type of vehicle and come out with my first pole position and round win in circuit racing competition.”
While Crick is yet to race his Porsche at Phillip Island, he has had some strong showings at the high-speed circuit in the Toyota 86 Series.
“I raced at Phillip Island twice in 86s, and had a good run there last year,” he said.
“I’ve only done a handful of laps in the wet in the Porsche, but it’s a track that really suits the high level of downforce and mid-corner grip of the GT3 Cup car so it should be a lot of fun.”
By comparison, Woods has more Porsche experience at Phillip Island and is aiming for continued improvements.
“SMP was a good round for me; I was doing personal-best lap times all weekend,” Woods said.
“Phillip Island is a circuit where I’ve tested and raced quite a bit, so I’m comfortable there. The goal will be to qualify well, and then make better starts than at SMP, where I was losing a few spots off the line.”
This weekend’s three Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge races will be live streamed via the Shannons Nationals website and Facebook page.
