FullGas Racing has experienced a steep learning curve in practice for the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour, drivers Dimitri Agathos and Lachlan Gibbons overcoming a range of challenges throughout today’s two sessions in their Nova Employment/Castrol/Whiteline Subaru WRX.
Gibbons drove the car for the entire opening session, recording a best time of 2:42.8.
“This track is a lot harder to learn in real life than on the simulator!” Gibbons said.
“The car behaved differently to how I expected and I was treading very carefully; the last thing I wanted to do was damage it in the first session of the weekend.
“Upon reflection, I know there is plenty of time to be found, which I look forward to working on tomorrow.”
Agathos completed the second session, but his progress was interrupted by a couple of minor technical problems including a split CV boot – despite the drama, he still managed a 2:38.9.
“The car was handling really well but we know there’s a lot more speed to be found tomorrow,” Agathos said.
On combined times, Agathos and Gibbons ended the day 35th overall, but both drivers said the lap times were not representative of the car’s potential.
“Neither session gave us the chance to complete an uninterrupted lap and we both know there’s a lot more in it,” Gibbons said.
“We’ve ended the day with the car in one piece and we know what we have to do to go faster tomorrow, so all-in-all a positive start to our weekend.”
Agathos and Gibbons will hit the track for final practice at 7:40 tomorrow followed by qualifying at 12:50.
