Miller Impresses in RX8 Cup Debut

Jason Miller has impressed in his maiden outing in the Mazda RX8 Cup one-make series, qualifying second for his debut race meeting in the category at The Bend Motorsport Park today.

Miller has secured a drive in a Sam Silvestro-owned S-Sport RX8, gaining some valuable extra seat time between his Australian Production Car Series and CUE Production Sports Endurance Series commitments.

Despite not driving the car until today, Miller said he gelled with it very quickly.

“Coming into the category, I didn’t know where I would be in the order, because I’m competing against drivers who already have a lot of experience in these cars,” Miller said.

“In practice, I found I was able to learn the track quickly, and managed to top both sessions.

“The car is quite similar to the Mazda MX5 I raced with Michael Hall in the Wakefield 300 a few years ago, but the circuit is not easy to learn – it has some high-speed corners where the turn-in points are blind, so it’s tricky to position the car accurately.

“In qualifying, I made a mistake on my best lap, which was enough to cost me pole position – but I’m stoked to score a front-row start for my debut in RX8 Cup.”

The RX8s will stage two races tomorrow at 8:55am and 1:15pm, with two more races on Sunday at 9:00am and 2:35pm.
