Jason Miller believes he will be able to quickly refamiliarise himself with the technical, 18-turn Bend Motorsport Park circuit when he returns to the driver’s seat of his Stokes Skis Australia Porsche for this weekend’s fourth round of the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge.
It will be Miller’s first visit to The Bend since he competed in the 2019 Mazda RX8 Cup round at the South Australian venue, and unlike many of his rivals, Miller has not tested at the circuit prior to this weekend’s race meeting.
“I’ve only raced at The Bend once before, in the Mazda RX8, so we’re probably starting the weekend at a disadvantage to some of the other drivers who have more track knowledge, but I’ll be trying my hardest to make up for it,” Miller said.
“In practice, I’ll be looking to follow people around the track so that I learn the lines and braking points as quickly as I can.”
In the first three rounds of the series, Miller and his small, privately-run family team have punched above their weight, Miller even leading one of the races at Sandown before spinning out of contention.
“We don’t have the bank of data or setup information available to some of the other teams, so our car setup approach has been a bit of trial and error,” Miller said.
“However, we’ve generally managed to find the sweet spot by the last race, which has enabled us to finish each round with speed that’s not too far behind the front-runners. The next challenge is for us to reach the optimum setup earlier in the weekend, so we can be challenging the front runners as soon as we roll the car out of the trailer.”
This weekend’s racing will be live streamed on 7Plus.
