Lachlan Mineeff says this weekend’s fifth round of the Australian Formula Ford Championship at The Bend Motorsport Park will be the biggest event of his career so far.
The Formula Ford races will support the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, the highest-level circuit racing category in the country, as part of the OTR SuperSprint at the state-of-the-art South Australian motorsport precinct.
“I’ve raced in state and national level events, but racing in front of the Supercars audience will be something else,” Mineeff said.
“Here in Australia, Supercars is the pinnacle of the sport – it’s the category we all aspire to race in, and it has a huge fan base.
“I can’t wait to race in front of a big crowd and put on a show – the Tailem Bend circuit is a mind-blowing facility, so racing at a high-profile event there will be an awesome atmosphere.”
Mineeff is currently seventh in the national Formula Ford standings, his best round result of fourth coming at Wakefield Park in May. One thing working in the 15-year-old’s favour is his previous success at The Bend.
“We went over to South Australia for a state round a couple of months ago, because we wanted to learn the track in preparation for this weekend,” Mineeff said.
“It ended up being a really productive weekend – as well as learning the track, we were also able to win a couple of races and set the lap record.
“Being a full national round, the intensity of competition will be a lot higher this weekend, but it’s still a nice confidence boost for us, having some good form on the board.”
One of the benefits of running on the Supercars support program is a generous level of exposure, with all this weekend’s races to be shown live on Fox Sports.
