Pulsar Champions Unite for Fight in the Night

FullGas Racing has announced a new driver for this weekend’s pair of 300 kilometre Australian Production Car Series endurance races at Queensland Raceway, 2017 NSW Pulsar Racing Champion Matt Boylan teaming up with Dimitri Agathos in the team’s Subaru WRX STI.

Boylan and Agathos’ careers have both followed similar trajectories; they competed together in karts, before progressing to the NSW Pulsar Series; Agathos won two titles in 2015-16 before Boylan was victorious last year.

Boylan, the nephew of long-time motorsport competitor Peter, is excited to be making his debut in the national series.

“We tested at Wakefield Park a couple of weeks ago, and I was happy with how I dialled myself into the car,” Boylan said.

“It was wet for most of the day but I had one dry session at the end, and was able to set some times that were very close to Dimitri.

“The WRX is a heavier car than the Pulsar but obviously it’s also more powerful; with the all-wheel-drive there’s power going to the front wheels, so some of the handling characteristics are quite similar to the front-wheel-drive Pulsar.

“I can’t wait to hit the track and I’m especially looking forward to the “Fight in the Night” race on Saturday evening.”

Agathos said the team has worked hard on the Nova Employment/Castrol/Whiteline/All Drive Subaroo/Hog’s Breath Café North Parramatta Subaru since the last round at Sandown.

“Admittedly we were a bit frustrated after Sandown, but we’ve freshened up the engine and replaced a lot of the components in the lead-up to Queensland; we’re expecting the car to be a reliable and consistent package.

“On strategy we’re not quite sure whether we can make it through the 300km races on one stop, or if we’ll need to come in for another splash of fuel – it will probably be determined by Safety Cars. We won’t complain if there’s some rain either!”

This weekend’s races will both be held as part of the Shannons Nationals race meeting, with Sunday’s race live-streamed.
