Thomas Returns to Sonic for Carrera Cup Pro-Am

Experienced production car and Formula Vee racer Dylan Thomas will return to the Sonic Motor Racing Carrera Cup squad for the Carrera Cup Pro-Am endurance event at Phillip Island this weekend.

Thomas, currently racing in the Toyota 86 Series, has established a formidable record in the Carrera Cup Pro-Am events. In 2015, he partnered Nick Foster and scored a memorable race victory, holding out a hard-charging Nick Percat in a thrilling finish.

Last year, he joined Nick McBride at the Sydney Motorsport Park Porsche Rennsport Festival, finishing second in the Sunday one-hour race.

Thomas will again partner Nick McBride, who is currently fourth in the series standings after a consistent start to the season, highlighted by a pair of race victories in the previous round at the Australian Grand Prix.

“It’s a privilege to be joining one of the front-running Carrera Cup teams, and partnering one of their title contenders,” Thomas said.

“The Porsche is a very different machine to the other cars I race, as it has a lot more power and a lot more aero.

“My job is to do competitive lap times compared to the other Am drivers, and help Nick accumulate plenty of points for his championship campaign.”

Thomas tested at Phillip Island last Wednesday, and McBride was thrilled with how easily he settled into the car.

“Because Dylan drives a lot of different cars, he’s been able to adapt really easily to the Porsche,” McBride said.

“Also, his team work ethic has been really impressive – because he runs his own team, he understands how to be a good team player and he fits in really well.”

The Carrera Cup Pro-Am enduro event will consist of two one-hour races, each with compulsory pit stops; the races will both be live streamed on the Shannons Nationals website.
