In recent weeks he has driven a GT3 car and a Supercar, but APB Group Carrera Cup racer Dylan O’Keeffe says he is firmly back in Porsche mode ahead of this weekend’s fourth round of the Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia at Hidden Valley.
As well as competing in the Phillip Island 101 aboard an Audi R8 GT3, O’Keeffe also completed laps in Anton De Pasquale’s Holden ZB Commodore at Winton last week, as part of an Erebus Motorsport evaluation day. But the 20-year-old racer is not losing concentration on his primary 2018 focus.
“Driving the Supercar was cool – I’ve grown up watching Supercars, so to finally drive one was awesome,” O’Keeffe said.
“It was a great experience and I’m very appreciative of the opportunity, but my priority this year is Carrera Cup and that’s where my focus lies.
“We tested the Porsche at Winton a couple of weeks ago, and I’m feeling positive about Hidden Valley this weekend.
“It’s one of my favourite tracks – as well as being a rewarding driver’s track, it also has a very friendly atmosphere. All the local fans turn out in force and the hairpin section has almost a sports stadium atmosphere with everyone looking down at the cars.”
This weekend’s Carrera Cup round features a pair of sprint races on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, followed by a long, 35-lap race on Sunday afternoon.
“Some of this year’s Carrera Cup rounds have longer races, and I thought the format worked well at Phillip Island,” O’Keeffe said.
“This weekend’s long race will be a tough one – both car setup and driver fitness will be critical due to the high temperature and humidity.”
This weekend’s three races will also be shown live on FOX Sports 506.
