Pre-1961 Cars and Bikes Flock to Pheasant Wood

A collection of pre-1961 cars and motorcycles will converge upon Pheasant Wood circuit this weekend for two days of regularity and race events, in a Father’s Day celebration of historic machinery.

The event is inspired by Australia’s first all-historic race meeting for cars and motorcycles, which was held at Amaroo Park on Australia Day, 1976.

The cars will be separated into three groups based on their predicted speeds, while there will also be regularity sessions (in which drivers are required to nominate a lap time and stay as close to that time as possible) for pre and post-war vehicles.

There will also be multiple groups of racing bikes, categorised by a combination of their age and engine capacity, and some demonstration sessions for historic sidecars.

Some of the vehicles set to compete in the race meeting are over a century old; the oldest car on this weekend’s entry list is a 1924 Alvis – the British manufacturer was famous for producing machines that competed at Brooklands, the world’s first banked purpose-built motor racing circuit.

Motorcycles from iconic brands of history such as Indian, Triumph and Harley Davidson are set to take to the track in the motorcycle sessions.

Spectators are welcome this weekend – entry is $20 at the gate, including a printed copy of the official race program.
